The Final Day

Just wanted to say that this class has been the best and it was definitely interesting being the only guy in my class (especially Wednesday night, lol) but you guys taught me a lot and I'm glad that I was in this class. Well, for me, its back to the Fountain City and although i will be glad to be back home and see my girlfriend and my family, I'm definitely gonna miss you girls.

Peace and much love to ya,
Jack

last day of camp :(

i can't believe today is our last day here! camp was so much fun, &editorial class was so b-a! all of you guys are incredible :)
SHOUT OUT TO THE THIRD FLOOR GIRLS!
last night was SO amazing; as many of you guys in this class know, i met my soul mate last night &one day, we will have pacific spice babies. too bad i don't even know his real name &we'll probably never meet again.
until we get married.

i hope there are more attractive guys our age in the actual field of journalism.... ;)
awwww.... last full day @ journalism camp :(. yesterday was the grady quad picnic. it was....interesting. some people were definitely not on their best behavior....but neither was i...so its cool.

Last DAY!

Wow I cannot believe today is the last day of camp! I've had a lot of fun this week and it's sad that it's almost over! I'm looking forward to today though, cause we have free time after lunch to  hangout in downtown Athens! I'm ready for more shopping =]  Tonight should be awesome at the banquet and dance. So i guess this is my last post so I just want to say I had a great time at camp, editorial class was cool, and the picnic last night was fun too... even though i failed epically at the drums on Rock Band!

last day:

apart of me cant wait to get home......im missing my bed soo much and my sleeping schedule. its been a fun experience but i guess some people aren't willing to learn from different people and experience something new.......I GUESS SOMETHINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE!
Last night we all hung and played rockband and volleyball and a bunch of other games while at Grady.  It was a lot of fun being able to relax and have fun.  I can't believe the camp is almost over, I feel like we've only just started.  I hope everyone has a great summer after this week! :)

The End... Not Even Close

It's official. It's the last day at the academy. In first arriving here, I was overwhelmed with everything: the huge campus, who my roommate was and if she was nice (she's the sweetest person by the way), and what sort of challenges Cecil Bentley were going to throw us. But what we went through is impossible to put into words. No words could compare to this amazing experience. I hope we all take what we learned and apply it to future experiences. Now it's the end of this journey... not even close.

Last Day In Rock☆ Camp

LAST NIGHT: business boys are rude
Today: Today is our last full day in rockstar camp. I really do not want to leave... Fortunately for me I will be taken to Auburn after this and will do News Journalism classes. I'm going to miss all of my friends I made being that I will never see them again because I live in Miami.

Grady After Dark

As the rain fell, many of us thought that the picnic would be canceled. However, in a moment the sun came out again, and we knew there would be a picnic and a movie. Everyone was excited and there were plenty of activities. I'm sure everyone felt comfortable, relaxed, and great.

Festivities

Last night. The business jerks seem to be the talk of the girls. Too bad the assholes are the ones that make 6 figures by their early to mid 30's. I wonder if business women are jerks too. Well it's the last day and we're all tired and fussy. I had a good time this week, I know a lot of people didn't think so, but journalism is something I'm actually interested in. So to all of those kids that are here for no reason and complain about it the whole time, words of advice, stop coming to things like this because you take the experience away from the ones that actually want to be here.

June 12, 2009

Today's the last full day of camp! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Okay, I'm really sad about it! Usually, I'm not a camp person at all. In fact, the last time I went to camp was five years ago, and I hated it.  But this has been a great experience! I've met a lot of great people along with learning some important journalism-things, too.  Last night was Grady After Dark. Basically, we played games and watched movies. What's better than that? (Okay, go karts, maybe. haha.) There was volleyball, soccer, nerf guns, School of Rock, and Rockband. Just like the first night here, I still fail at Rockband. Oh, and the cotton candy was ballin'!  I think we get to sleep late tomorrow... but I'll probably get up early anyways.

Day Five Update

Well we've reached the end of an era, despite it being the shortest era in history. Today's the last day of camp. Last night was amazing. Emma Brown and I found another twin trait, our strange obsession with School of Rock. Its like we're the same person. It's going to be so sad to leave, but at least I'll have a comfortable bed for a night, then its off to Girl's State.

last day in class

After being here last year, you would think that I would be used to academy life. And I am. Academy life is fun and tiring but I wouldn't  trade in my experiences at the academy the last two years for nothing because its a journey and memorable  experience that I will never forget. So with that in mind, I say my farewell . . . for now. You may see me again sooner than you think.

Til later, and maybe forever, peace and much love to ya.

Day Four Update, Mariko Antonacci

Today was BOMB! I finished my profanity editorial and got to curse a little bit haha.
A few girls in our class came up with a list of fun words to say today:
(In no order:)
hullabaloo
superfluous
ludicrous
balderdash
brouhaha
plethora
spatula
spelunking

THE EDITORIAL CLASS IS B-A.

Mariko :)

Editorial. Done.

Finally! I'm finished with my editorial. It's a huge weight off of my shoulders. Let's print. Now the graphic design kids have something to occupy their time with. Yay. It's almost lunch time.

Day (place number here)

Well its shocking that camp is coming to an end. I'm not sure if I want that to quite happen just yet. I cant wait for our last final events coming up like the picnic and banquet.
I am also extremely relieved that I have finished my editorial and excited for it to be published.

here we go again

Sorry! This may be the worst blog ever. So, it's Thursday. Just another day at camp. We've all had a big weight lifted off of our shoulders when we finished our articles. Good times...

Day Four Update

Yesterday was amazing. I finally finished my editorial. Its like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Shopping in downtown was amazing, I got an amazing new dress. I'm insanely excited about it.

June 11, 2009

I've finally finished my editorial! Yep, it's pretty exciting. Now, we're "pow pow wowing" (aka throwing headline ideas around).  This is such a relief! Everyone's really relaxed now, and it's great. Yesterday, we all went to downtown to Athens. Lots of cool stores and restaurants! I ended up at to Mellow Mushroom for lunch with Molly, Emma, Kelsey, Parker, Tori, Courtney, Nichole, and Laetitia. At 2:30, we visited the Red & Black which was really interesting. I had the focus group yesterday and got a free key chain! Apparently, I got lost too, but that's another story. :]

So close, but so far

Waking up so early and going to sleep so late is not the best schedule. There are times where my roommate and I will talk all night, or sleeping in a strange bed. It  tends to be straining. I want to eat breakfast, but you have to walk to the dining hall. I've had loads of fun, but I want to go home. I did learn a lot here, but its nice waking up at 12 in the afternoon, eating cereal for lunch, and having home cooked food and ice-cream for dinner.

Thursday

So i cant believe how fast this camp is going by! Shopping downtown was even more fun than i expected. I got a strawberry-banana smoothie at Planet Smoothie or Smoothie Planet (whatever its called) that was really good. I wish i was more into music because the record store we went into was the coolest thing ever. I am so glad i've finished my editorial and I actually like it! (Which is surprising for me)  Can't wait until 'Grady after dark' tonight, it sounds exciting!  =]

Thursday Morning at UGA

Hey, It's me again. Just got the ok to put my editorial on the flash drive so I'm done. Just gotta help everyone else so we can get this to Graphic Design Today! And believe I can't wait for the quad tonight! The Jack Attack is back tonight (if you are wondering what I'm talking about, ask any counselor that was at the quad last year (Jacob, Carolyn or Joe))!

Til later, peace and much love to ya,
Jack

They Never Said Journalism was easy. . .

It's Wednesday morning and I have taken statistics on every AYP Category in my county. I hope that it only gets better from here. . . 2 hours of taking stats isn't necessarily fun. But It's what it takes to get the job done so I'll live with it.

Til later, peace and much love to ya,
Jack

Tuesday!

Tuesday!
Hmmm... my 2nd day of camp wasn't off to a great start. Me and my bestie/roommate Blake both woke up at 8:15, an hour late, and rushed getting dressed. Class was a blur. My mind wasn't fully cooperating haha! Lunch was GREAT! lol.  The first day i had that nasty Asian food (even though i am Korean. ASIAN PERSUASION!) but yesterday i had the steak and cheese k-sa- dilla mmmmm yummy. Funapolis was dank! i had a fun time. Katie and I took crazy pictures together and got trampled on the go-carts. Not to forget how we got soaked on the water bumpers. ily katie! lol.
My day was fun, but my night was even better. My roomie and I had a crazyyyy time. I couldn't have chose a more fun roommate. Thank god we get along and were alike!
Man, I been here 2 days and it feels like 2 weeks. I don' want this trip to end!

Fun is possible at Funopolis!

When I first heard "Funopolis" images of little kids playing around first come to mind, so I wasn't sure of how much I would like going there. But I ended up having a good time and was entertained as well. There were so many things to do. They had go carts, a rock wall, bumper cars, laser tag, mini golf, bumper boats, and an enormous room filled with games. I love heights so my personal favorite was getting to climb the rock wall. Coming in my second was the laser tag. It was like a combination of Starwars and James Bond.  Overall, I had a great time at Funopolis.

Super Fun Happy Time

I must say I felt like a 5-year-old last night, not in a bad way of course, but I was for sure not hesitant by any means to run after people in laser tag or get drenched on the bumper boats. Sometimes you have the best time when you just let go and act a little immature and crazy. I was definitely felt like a cold, wet cat on the way back to UGA, but my clothes will dry out and I'll always remember that one time at journalism camp. After the interesting super fun happy time, reality comes back and I realize that I'm slightly worried that I'm not going to have enough time to finish this article I'm working on. I want it to be good, because the teenage mom that I interviewed wants me to send her a copy...So I'd like for it to be presentable. Also, I'm pretty stoked about returning to school in August (weird, I know) but I have a reason. I'm going to finally start an ACTIVE newspaper at my school. I've even obtained a sponsor!! So I'm being a dork and trying to take notes so I can return to Hart County and educate people how to write articles for a newspaper. :)

Happy working.

Super Happy Fun Time

Although I am from Athens, I didn't realize Funapolis is so near by. Funapolis, Commerce is a family fun center with go karts, laser tag, and arcade games. The colorful atmosphere and staff is very organized and once we got there, everyone was thrilled. I didn't try out laser tag, but the go karts are competitive and fast. The Fun Center Layout is childlike, but it has something everyone will genuinely enjoy. Among the arcade games were classic sega games, Pac-Man, racing games, Dance Dance Revolution, and the renowned favorite Guitar Hero. The outdoor scenary was very pleasant, there was even some water games. It was a pleasure having Super Happy Fun Time with pleasant friends.

Funopolis!

Last night at Funopolis was definitely fun, except for the long bus ride to and from the arcade. I only won about ten tickets but I rode the bumper cars and the race cars each twice, and tried that spider maze slide, which is harder than it looks. Overall the trip was pretty cool and even though I don't live in Athens and can't go back there i would definitely want to go to a place like it nearby where I live with friends.

Day Three Update

I'll be honest I was skeptical of this so-called "super fun happy time". I don't usually do well with things so happy. However, I will make a confession, it was insanely fun. No I'm not being sarcastic, as is my usual tendency, but had an actual enjoyable time. Even though I lost at Laser Tag, 14 out of 15, and my knowledge of being a less than adequate mini-golf player was reaffirmed, I reveled in my failures. The Go-Karts had to be the best part though, I never get to drive that fast in day to day life so it was a welcome change. I'll admit I was a little terrified, but when i actually started driving I had a blast. However, the difficulty of all these tasks kind of pales in comparison to that Spider Climb thing; I have no idea how small children do it. Maybe I just don't have any coordination.

June 10, 2009

Yesterday, we took a 30 minute trip over to Commerce to enjoy all the FUN at FUNAPOLIS! Okay, yes, the name is a little cheesy. Seriously though, would you expect a place with laser tag, go-carts, putt putt, and an arcade to be named anything else? First, we went over to Putt Putt, and my game wasn't too shabby. That's a little surprising considering my golf game is horrible. Last time I played, I hit the golf pro in the shins. Anyways... Laser tag was so amazing. So what if we lost to the mighty blue team? So what if I got 13th place out of 15th people? Yeah, it was great! And finally, maybe the best part of the whole time: Go-carts. At first, I opted out of that one. It just seems so... dangerous. After a bit of convincing, I was on the track ready to go. I'm not sure exactly how you "win" the race... because everyone starts at a different time and no one knows who's lapping who. Or maybe I just didn't keep track (Notice the pun?).

That trip was even better than bowling! Lots o' fun.
-Rachel

fun-poly

it was fun, actually it was a little more than fun. kids, games and candy.......WHAT could be better than that!

Super Fun Happy Time?

I have to admit when I read "Super Fun Happy Time" on our schedule, I was worried. However our night at Funopolis turned out to be great. It was definitely not what I expected it to be (in a good way). Laser Tag was by far the most exciting activity of the evening. I have not played since I was probably eight years old but I ended up winning with 35,000 points, resulting in a UGA golf towel prize this morning. Parker, Kelsey, Laetitia, and I tackled the Spider climb thing.. definitely a lot harder than it looks.
The bus ride home did not end very well. A couple of students at the back of the bus were apparently rude to a counselor so we all were yelled at. People amaze me sometimes.

Looking forward to roaming around downtown Athens this afternoon :)

FUN-opolis

In Miami there is NOTHING that could own up to something as fun as FUNopolis. I had so much fun with my friends it was incredible! From the Go-Karting course to dancing with aliens it makes me want to go back now! If I was asked what my favorite part of funopolis was I would say definitely the water bumper cars getting soaking wet and then going on the Go-Karts a few times to dry off. Also another exciting part of funopolis was a game that was kind of like dance dance revolution but it wasn't because the screen was on the floor and you had to look down and battle out your team mate for who ever got the most points. Next time I visit Georgia I'm going to force my parents to take me to funopolis for a while because I had an amazing time.

Day Three Update, Mariko Antonacci

Why am I so exhausted at journalism camp? I just don't get it.
I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about "super happy fun time," but Funapolis was pretty "b-a" last night; I owned a few girls in laser tag and took some ridiculous pictures with Kaitlyn, Rachel, and Kate.
I can't wait to go walk around and explore downtown Athens; I heard it was a really chill and down-to-earth place, so that should be an adventure :)

I have writer's block, and maple syrup on my arm.

Mariko :)

Day 3

Yesterday was crazy. After class we took a bus to funapolis where we went around playing games like laser-tag, bumper cars, go-carts,  climbing a rock wall, and water bumper cars. But my experience there was a little different than the experience of my peers.  I participated in most of the activities, and it was fun getting to know people better. And at the end of the night, a small group of us went to the water bumper cars....let's just say that by the time the ride ended and before the walk to the bus, I had been pulled into the water and came out soaking wet.  It was so much fun. I hope the camp will decide to go to the park again next year; everyone had a blast.

Funopolis

Last night we all went to Funopolis. And despite the fact that the place looked a little cheesy on the outside, it was a blast. there was lots of stuff to do and it was the perfect way to wind down for the night. a bunch of us got so caught up on dance dance revolution that we almost didn't have time to ride the go carts, but they kept them open a couple extra minutes so we could have time. Laughs, fun, laser tag... good times

Rockstar at Funopolis

Last Night, the Rockstar Gang headed to Funopolis in Commerce. It was just out of this world. On the golf course, I did average (if you can say that), played some arcade games. But that was nothing compared to what was happening on the go-kart track. An instant (and do I ever mean instant) rivalry started between me and another one of the guys here. From there, it was like Dale Earnhardt, Jr. vs. Kyle "Rowdy" Busch. He was being consistent and just riding out in the lead (Dale Jr.) while I had to fight from 11th (dead last) after being spun out on the 2nd lap to catch him.  I was driving so fast when I would turn, the car would start sliding. But yet I was catching him. Unfortunately, I ran out of time and had to settle for 2nd. So all and all it was a great night and well since we are going downtown today, we'll see what happens at the Quad on Thursday night!

Til later, peace and much love to ya,
Jack

class yesterday

yesterday was a really good day in editorial writing . ideas were flowing really freely and it seemed like everyone was in sync and really passionate about their topic. usually on my high school paper personalities clash on a regular basis because everyone is on a different page. so, coming into a unified environment was really refreshing

Day 2

Yesterday was different than I expected.  I ended up having a lot of fun.  In class we discussed ideas for the paper and announced what we wanted to write.  Later we went bowling and it was fun to hang out with everyone.

Day Two in Editorial Writing

I'm really excited to continue working today in class. Yesterday was very interesting. I enjoyed listening to everyone's ideas about topics for our first editorial articles. I'm ready to begin work on my article on the importance of athletics and exercise and the effect of the electronic age. I hope to get a lot of feedback from my classmates and Mr. Bentley.

day 2 @ camp

June 9, 2009 - Journalism :]

Today is the second full day of class. I'm not nearly as tired as I was yesterday, but that could be because my roommate, Kelsey, and I didn't stay up until 1 AM last night like we did before. Yesterday's class was intense, to say the least. As I was telling my new friends, I've recently found out that I'm a "sheltered little white girl". In class, we went around the room talking about all the school controversies from this past school year. My other peers talked about lock downs, serious drug busts, pregnancies, etc. At my school, that sort of thing is unheard of. I'm sure it happens (not the lock downs), but we never hear about it. They don't tell us ANYTHING. They don't want to "destroy their rep," I guess. Anyways, we're going to draw our articles for the week's paper from that conversation. I think I'm going to write about the importance of the first amendment.

I'll write more later...
-Rachel

ŖΘ©K☆- Day 2

This is my first year in a Journalism camp and so far I love it! Although the camp is during the Animal Collective Concert thats in Fr. Lauderdale tonight.. I know I wont miss it while I'm at SUPER HAPPY FUN TIME in FUNAPOLIS!!!! What I love about this camp is that everyday is a new day and you never know what to expect and that is the reason why I wake up in the morning.

First Days at Camp

During my first days at camp I've made memories that will last a lifetime. The best part about it is that I still have five more days left to make more memories. As of now five days seems like forever, but I know it'll fly by.  Though yesterday felt like the longest day ever, I wouldn't trade that day  for anything, even when we walked all those flights of stairs. Suffice it to say, lets make the best of this experience.

Kirstie Broadwell

Monday!

Day one of camp was uh-may-sing! haha. i had lots of fun and met a lot of new friends. ily blake, raya, amber, jasmine, jenny, kayla, jarrett, and sallay. lol. especially blake! haha. last night was crazyyyyy. Bowling was a blast. I won! yay! lol. I'm super ready for super-happy-fun-time. i miss my family though. =(.  Not to mention these walks are the longest walks everrrrr. I so better be in shape after this!

Kaila Lynch.

Day Two Update, Mariko Antonacci

Even though I am extremely opinionated, writing editorials are my weak point, which I hope to improve through this class. Yesterday was mainly brainstorming, and I am enjoying this class so far. Everyone has great ideas for their personal writing pieces and I am excited to read the final results. We have all decided on our editorial topics, and I feel like today will be an extremely productive class period. We are moving forward with our writing as a group and I am ready to start researching my topic. I'm not feeling very awake and ready to write yet, but I hope I'll get there soon....

Mariko :)

Rockstar- Day 2

Well, after being here last year, I can definitely say that it has been a wild ride so far this year. 4 days 2 go. I have no idea what to expect.

Day Two Update

What an experience camp has been. Yesterday was an amazing learning experience; I enjoyed listening to a wide spectrum of ideas and topics. Last night was interesting; I am a terrible bowler.

Living on Campus

Adjusting to life on campus has its ups and downs. While i am already used to sharing a bathroom, i have not gotten used to sharing one with a whole floor of girls. Sharing a room is better than i expected, though. The most difficult adjustment for me is walking everywhere. Normally I drive everywhere, because i live in a suburban area, and walking is just not comfortable for me. Living in Florida, any walking you do is on a flat surface, without any staircases or sloping hills. Georgia is very different, because, while it's still very hot and humid like Florida, walking takes twice the effort when tackling all those tall staircases. Overall, though, campus life grows on you and i am excited to finish out the week!

It's 9:30 AM and my eyelids are failing me.

Class yesterday was interesting. All the editorial kids picked "controversial" topics to write about. The topics range from drugs to AYP certification. It should be pretty intense. As for me, I'm about to check statistics on teen pregnancy. On a lighter side, I'm pretty stoked about super happy fun time tonight. Yay gokarts! (I'm not sure about the spelling of gokarts...Yeah I'm a future journalist, that's right). <-- Notice the period on the OUTSIDE of the parenthesis. :)

Yeah, we're rockstars :)

Tuesday 6/9/

The past two days have been very exciting, but now the hard work will start. I'm sure everyone can agree that the hardest part of the day is waking up early, but we are all here ready and willing. Brainstorming ideas yesterday morning and afternoon has motivated the group. The captivating stories got many talking, because everyone felt connected, thus becoming great articles. There were many problems/issues needed to be addressed, and everyone is glad to make them aware, at least to our fellow classmates. When you start such a huge project, its nice to know that everyone participated and seeing the final project is the most compensating feeling.

Welcome!

Welcome Editorial Writing Rock Stars!
